Is The Bible Substandard?

The law of Yahweh is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of Yahweh is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of Yahweh are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of Yahweh is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Psalms 19:7-8

A recent Christian News site headlined "Archeology Verifies Bible," read here. Over the past decades, various kinds of "proof" and other discoveries or research have been offered to establish the Bible as true or confirm it's accuracy, as if to pass a test.

It is suggested or assumed this is a good thing. However, it ignores the question: Does God's Word need proof or proving? Is there a need for a human process or discovery in order to ascertain the Bible's validity? Can an archaeological science prove that God's Word as trustworthy? Is there some human standard the Bible must measure up to? And, why do Christians accept one archaeology discovery that claims to verify the Bible and not archaeology discoveries that claim disprove the Bible? Are not both claiming to be the result of scientific research?

Perfect

To answer the above questions, Psalm 19 needs be considered. "The law [Bible] of Yahweh is perfect." It is "sure." It is "right." It is "pure." Within the Bible, we hold in our hands the very words of God. All of which came directly from our Creator, "All Scripture is God-breathed" (2 Timothy 3:16a).

Nothing man can discover or applied test will make God's Word more perfect, sure, right or pure. It is true, regardless. Scripture is Truth, absolutely. Therefore, it must be trusted implicitly - with unreserved confidence. So called verification's, only cause doubt; that the Bible must meet some man contrived standard in order to fully believe and assured of it's truth.

In The Beginning

Christians must think seriously on verses such as John 1:1: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Does God need verification? Do we need something more? Does God need proving beyond what He has provided? Of course not.

Perfection does not need verification. Nothing or no man in a fallen world can measure or gauge the quality of such purity. Sinful man cannot prove the Word of God is true, nor can he discover proof to make the Bible more sure and right and accurate than what God's own Word has provided.

By Faith

Faith, the kind Yahweh expects, does not stand on the sidelines waiting or looking for some kind of evidence. Rather, "faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ" (Romans 10:17). The Word of God is the foundation of faith. In other words, looking for or needing "proof" in order to accept the Bible at it's core is, unbelief.

Archaeology

Are not discoveries helpful? Yes, such archaeological discoveries are valuable when God's Word determines them to be valid. A discovery that agrees with the Bible, it is helpful indeed to give insight to some, let's say, historical detail. When an archaeology discovery is contrary, and many have been put forward, that contradict the Biblical account, then the conclusion of that discovery is wrong. Not God's Word.

The same must be said regarding any science. Any science validated by way of the Bible can be trusted. For example, when archaeological science concludes man evolved from apes, from the Bible we know that this is not science, rather a falsehood, therefore invalid (Genesis 2:7). In other words, true science has God and the authority of His Word at its center. This often is called a "world view." Apart from a clear Biblical world view, all man's endeavors will error.

Proof Provided

To take this one more step. If you insist on proof, then look to the obvious. The Psalmist begins chapter 19 with and points to all the proof any man needs: “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And the expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their utterances to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; It rejoices as a strong man to run his course. Its rising is from one end of the heavens, And its circuit to the other end of them; And there is nothing hidden from its heat (Psalms 19:1-6).

All of creation testifies, "declaring the work of His hands." The Bible is no less of a work of God. He breathed His Word, sent His incarnate Word to the earth, preserved His Word through the millennia and expects His creatures to accept and obey His Word with unhesitant faith. "The law of Yahweh" is His revelation of Himself that cannot be found anywhere else.

What Standard

In the Christian's mind, such supposed verification should cause concern. Because, there are a plethora claims from men, but apart from the Bible there is no standard to measure the validity of any claim. This is especially the case regarding claims that state whether the Bible is true or false. The Word of Yahweh is self-evident and is to be trusted above any other supposed standard. Such claims regarding this or that to proof the Bible, only serve to foster distrust in what God says.

The Bible is complete. Nothing is needed to substantiate it. Nothing proves the Bible. Nothing man can come up with will make the Bible more true. There is no outside authority God must measure up to. "The judgments of Yahweh are true; they are righteous altogether" (Psalms 19:9). "The law of Yahweh" in the Christians mind, must always be first and foremost. The Bible is the "standard."

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Yahweh, my rock and my Redeemer.” Psalms 19:14
