Waiting and waiting and waiting and…

One day during the course of business some years ago, I walked into a truck repair shop and saw a group of mechanics taking a coffee break. All of them were leaning against the front end of a truck that had its engine removed. On a large table nearby, in what looked like a million pieces, was the engine waiting to be assembled.

As I approached it was obvious this was an average morning break with the usual causal conversation with sips of coffee mixed in. As I listen in, I notice that some of the comments centered on what the guys thought was the best time estimate to complete the assembly and install of the engine. With hardly a thought I chimed in using a somewhat sarcastic tone, "well you know if you just give enough time, all those engine parts will put themselves together and back under the hood of this truck in perfect running condition."

For a moment the conversation paused as each one of these skilled mechanics looked at me with one of those very readable facial expressions. Clearly everyone was wondering if I had come from some other planet or was just a plain idiot! A very understandable reaction, because each of these fellas immediately understood how absurd and laughable my comment was.

After waiting a second for my words to sink in, I provided a follow up comment, "but isn't that exactly what the evolutionist is saying?" Suddenly their expressions changed. I think they got my point.

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth ... And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good." Genesis 1:1,31
